Ruth Margaret Metzger

Ruth Margaret Metzger, 91, of Burlington, died Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.

Born September 22, 1934, in Burlington, she was the daughter of David I. and Margaret E. White Marshall.

She graduated high school and attended two years of college. 

Ruth worked at Murray Iron Works for three years, Case for 22 years, and Sylvania for seven years.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and helped with the Special Needs Foundation of Des Moines County.  She loved the outdoors, swimming, spending time with her church groups, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include one son, David (Inez) Metzger of Burlington; one foster son, Richard (Rhonda) Rowe of Jonesburg, MO; two daughters, Peggy (Dennis) Stout of Ankeny and Jean (Mike) Schnellbacher of Wever, IA;  numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ed (Sharon) Marshall of New London.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Alice, Jane, and Joanne in infancy; and two brothers, Jim and Bob.

Cremation has been entrusted to Prugh Funeral Service.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The memorial service for Mrs. Metzger will be 11:00 am Thursday, February 26, 2026, also at Prugh Funeral Service.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh Funeral Service following the service.

Memorials have been established to Grace United Methodist Church and Special Needs Foundation of Des Moines County.
